Meshuggah - Forced to cancel Sauna Rock 2009!

As many of you probably know Tomas underwent back surgery

a while ago and the surgery itself was successful.

The surgery was done to remove a disc hirnea in Tomas' lower back,

a hirnea that had been pressing on the sciatic nerve and causing

a lot of difficulty with Tomas' right foot when playing.

However, while rehearsing for the summer festivals, which worked just fine initially,

Tomas back started acting up again.

This is of course an indication that too much strain was put on

Tomas' back too soon after surgery.

We were really confident we would make this happen

but since the spine and its nerves are things you have

to really take care of, we feel that this set-back that

Tomas had a few days ago, means we're regrettably forced to

cancel the Sauna Rock-festival. It really sucks as we really wanted

to come and play Finland again! So this is a big disappointment to us too!

We are still aiming to go through with the rest of the summer and since

every day that goes by makes a big difference for Tomas' recovery,

we feel confident we will make the rest of the summer happen!

Scandinavian Dates Cancelled!!!

We’re VERY VERY sorry to have to bring you these news,

but we have to cancel the upcoming Scandinavian dates!

Tomas has had some back-related problems lately.

Problems that have been messing with his right foot/leg when playing drums!

Tomas did an MRI about a week ago and the results came back early this week.

Seems he has a hirneated disc in his lower back and this is

what’s been causing problems for him when playing!

Tomas reports that he has no pains or real discomforts from this –

just the fact that his right foot doesn’t seem to “act out” what Tomas’

brain is telling it to do!

It seems this is a quite common symptom when having a hirneated

disc in this (lumbar) area of the back, since the protruding part of the “broken” disc

(depending on hirnea location) can put pressure on the sciatic and nearby nerves!

Tomas says the bands’ focus right now, is to try to get surgery done a.s.a.p, so

this condition doesn’t affect the upcoming summer shows and festivals in Europe!

Tomas also says: “To all Scandinavian Meshuggah fans that have bought tickets to see the upcoming shows –

The whole band is sorry about this, but we need to sound and play our best

when you guys come out to see us!

With this music there’s really no room for half-measures and sloppy bassdrum work!

But that’s what’s happening with this hirneated disc – it messes with my control of my right foot and

even though it’s possible to get through a show, it just sounds like crap as

my right foot/leg won’t really do what I mean for it to do – which is VERY frustrating to say the least!!

We’re sincerely sorry about this and we trust and know that you guys can appreciate

our take on this and the fact that we need to look to the future of Meshuggah

and try our best to make sure we don’t run into this problem again!

Thanx!!

- Michelle Meldrum Passing.. -

A good friend and fellow musician has sadly passed away.

Michelle Meldrum, songwriter/guitarist and leader of the L.A. based band Meldrum,

formerly also in bands Wargod and Phantom Blue among others -

sadly passed away May 21 at age 39.

A cystic growth on her brain is what caused this sad and untimely death!

Our thoughts go out to the other band members and of course to her family,

friends and to her son.

- Tour Issues! -

Ahhh, not so awesome beginning of the CU LaTour!

We just wanna say we´re sorry for you guys who came out to the Calgary show especially!

The routing/distances for this tour was insane for the first couple shows and us

being stuck at the U.S/Canada border for a few hours meant we didn´t

make it in time for the Calgary show!

For the first Vancouver show at the Croatian culture center - same thing!

Too far a drive to actually make it in time, so everything was way delayed

which in turn meant that we had to cut the set real short! 3 songs!!

How´s that for a Meshuggah set!!? Kinda embarrasing, but things were out of our hands!!

We were there in time but the semi with all the stage gear was very late and with a 11 p.m curfew....

Basically, the start of this tour was just routed insanely and as for the rest

of the tour, we shouldn´t run into these issues.

So again, we apologize to those of you who came out to the shows to see us,

only to find we didn´t play or as for the Vancouver show - only played for 15 minutes!

Sincerely,

Meshuggah
