Meshuggah 25 Years Anniversary

The ninth wonder of the unnatural world, Sweden’s technically intoxicating extreme metal quintet MESHUGGAH, are bringing their immense live show to Europe this December to celebrate their 25th year of musical deviance.

MESHUGGAH will play a very special 25th Anniversary set by performing selections from their 1989 - 2012 discography including some rare songs that haven’t been played live in many years.

 

This live news comes after MESHUGGAH recently announced the upcoming re-issue of 2004’s one song EP, I, via Nuclear Blast out on 29th September, and an incredible live DVD 'The Ophidian Trek' also released on the same date.

Meshuggah - The Ophidian Trek

Commemorating the 25-year anniversary since the recording of their first EP, MESHUGGAH have announced the artwork and the track listing to their upcoming live DVD / 2-CD release 'The Ophidian Trek,' due out worldwide this fall and also available in Blu-ray.

With visual footage shot in the U.S. & Europe during The Ophidian Trek tour and festival footage from Wacken Open Air 2013 in Germany, the live audio was processed & edited by MESHUGGAH guitarist Fredrik Thordendal, mixed by Daniel Begstrand (MESHUGGAH, DIMMU BORGIR, BEHEMOTH), and mastered by Mats “Limpan” Lindfors (ROXETTE, OPETH, MANDO DIAO).

Drummer Tomas Haake shares the following about the upcoming DVD:

“We’re really stoked about this new MESHUGGAH live DVD! It’s been 4 years since the release of ‘Alive’ and with the band celebrating 25 years, we felt that we just had to get another one of these puppies out there! Audio/Video was recorded during our European stretch of ‘The Ophidian Trek’ tour, as well as at the Wacken Open Air festival - and we’re super proud of how it came out! For this one we used the extremely talented photographer Anthony Dubois for filming and editing, etc. and he’s really done a stunning job with it! Hope you guys dig it and here’s to another 25 (or maybe just a little less)!!”

- MESHUGGAH CELEBRATE 25TH ANNIVERSARY AT GRÖNA LUND, STOCKHOLM -

On Saturday 31st of May Meshuggah will enter Gröna Lund's main stage
offering a very special 25th Anniversary set containing songs from 1989
to 2012. All of you Swedish natives know what this summer classic is all
about.

It wouldn't be a lie though to claim that this very evening will
offer something quite different from what you would expect when other
confirmed acts, ZZ Top and Tom Jones to mention a few, enter the same
stage later this summer.

- A QUARTER CENTURY OF DEVIANCE -

You try to wrap your head around it but comprehension fails - it's been twentyfive years since the first official Meshuggah release!!! The selftitled (though often referred to as "Psykisk testbild") EP came out on the small local Umeå label Garageland Records in 1989, making 2014 the big TWO FIVE for the band!! Hoooly s**t!!

Who would have thought huh!?  - That our small group of young guys would get to - not only write and record our own quirky, deviant style of metal - but that we would still be doing it a quarter century later, making our living off of what we love to do!! Now in our forties we can't but look back at it jawdropped and baffled at the fact!!

We always set out to do something new, something different from the music we heard around us - something that would be a challenge to ourselves to write, learn and perform. Something truly unique. Looking back at our career we feel that we have actually been successful in doing just that!!

We have for so many years been blessed with a super loyal fanbase and a still-growing one at that, allowing us to continue to create freely and without boundaries! For this we sincerely thank all of our fans that have stood by us all this time!!!

To commemorate this great anniversary we have a few different cool things coming out in 2014! Those will include among other things a few official releases, but as to not completely kill the suspense immediately, we will come back with more info on that during the winter and spring. So keep your eyes and ears peeled for more news on this in the next few months, on our official site as well as Facebook etc. 

One thing we can announce at this time though is that we will be doing a few select "25th Anniversary" festival dates both European and in North America, out of which one will be us closing the Marquee stage at Graspop festival with a special 25th anniversary set on Sunday 29th of June! More info on additional dates will soon follow!

I'll stop blathering now. Just want to say, from all of us in the band to all people whose support keeps us going strong still :
